the closest thing to...
Fiona Shaw, on rehearsing Beckett's Happy Days: 'With only a few days to go, Warner and I had a long overdue lunch with Edward Beckett, Samuel's nephew. He looked so like his uncle, I felt we had met the man himself.' That's what meeting HL was like - the closest thing to being with VW. And yet what struck me about that interaction was H's professional distance from V, she had clearly moved on. And while she said she returned to V every now and then, she made it sound rather like visiting an elderly relative in an old age home.
